If somebody asks me how I started writing poetry, in all honesty, I don't remember that. But why do I write can be easily seen in my poem, "Likh lete hain yunhi ke saans chale".
I always had an inclination towards arts; all sorts of arts. I got my interest in reading from my mother. My dad had 3 copies of Harivansh Rai Bachchan's Madhushala and Neeraj's Karwaan Guzar Gaya, which I had read as a kid but probably never truly understood. As I grew up, I developed interest in ghazals and Urdu poetry. I would jot down a few lines here and there in notebooks but never got all my writings in order.
A few years back I started maintaining a diary of my poetry, in which I added a few songs too. You will find these songs as well, here in this book.
